Motion characteristics and force properties of bulk coal in middle pan of scraper conveyor

  • Based on the working principle of scraper conveyor and the geometric and physical properties of bulk coal, a discrete element model of scraper conveyor transporting bulk coal was established. And the transportation process was simulated by utilizing the discrete element software EDEM. This paper analyzes the results which are difficult to obtain by the traditional continuum theory,including the distribution and motion characteristics of bulk coal in the middle pan and the properties of force to the middle pan and the scraper chain. It is found that the distribution and motion characteristics of bulk coal can lead to abrasive wear in the chain way of middle pan under severe circumstances. The conclusions provide a reference for the optimum structural design of scraper conveyor.
